Your Pet And Dog Food Allergy Symptoms

Like human beings, dogs have also the tendencies to be sensitive to what they eat. Dog food allergy symptoms are recently very common and varied especially with pure breed dogs. The causes are usually the brand of dog food and any other food the dog eats. Take note that such food reaction doesn't necessarily occur with first exposure. It usually requires second, third or subsequent exposure before the actual symptoms become very apparent.

Food allergies in dogs can result to several symptoms. They include, but not limited to: skin problems, breathing problems, stomach or digestive problem and skin problems.

Dog skin problems are characterized with irritation and itchiness. Dogs usually scratch continuously and excessively, then lick or even bite themselves (especially on the feet and legs). They will also try to rub their faces with the paws or on the floor and other surfaces. This often result to patches of scaly or red skin and hair loss.

Vomiting and/or diarrhea is another sign of dog food allergy. In most cases, their bowel movements are very frequent, usually more than 2 per day. Dogs can also have a hard time breathing with their exposure to the allergens. They will eventually sneeze, cough and wheeze. Other symptoms include chronic ear problems, excessively head-shaking and irritated/swollen eyes. They can also have behavioral problems like aggression and hyper-activity.

There are many ingredients in dog food, which trigger allergic reaction:

* beef

* dairy products

* eggs

* corn

* pork

* soy

* food additives and preservatives

* fermented cheese

* canned tune or sardines

* beef sausages

* tomatoes

If your pet is suffering from such reaction, it is better if you consult a veterinarian. Such doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment for the allergy. Also, don't forget to give your dog daily baths, which help relieve the itchiness.
